Exams

Exams and VEE information can be found at www.soa.org, but a summarized version is below. In case of conflicting information, the Society of Actuaries takes precedence.

Exam P/1 - held 4 times a year, in May, July, September and November. For test dates and registration deadlines, click here. Warning: Registration for the P/1 Exam deadline is November 26.

Exam FM/2 - held twice a year, in May and November. Applications must be sent in before April 1 for the Spring session and September 24 for the Fall session.

Calculators - approved calculators by the SOA are the Texas Instruments BA-35 model calculator, BA II Plus, BA II Plus Professional Edition, TI-30Xa, or TI-30X II.


What courses would prepare me for these exams?

Exam P/1 requires the following classes:
Introduction to the Theory of Probability
C22.0014. 3 points. Fall and spring.
Cross-listed with B90.3301. Prerequisites: V63.0121 and V63.0122.


Exam FM/2 requires the following classes:
Mathematics of Investments
C22.0027. 3 points. Fall.
Cross-listed with B90.2309. Prerequisites: V63.0121, V63.0122.


In addition, knowledge of derivative markets is required. Here are some

Exam MLC requires the following classes:

C22.0037. 3 points. Spring.

What classes do I need to take to qualify for VEE?

There are three areas which require Validation by Educational Experience:
- Economics
Topics in microeconomics and macroeconomics. Students will be waived from this requirement by obtaining a grade of B- or better in V31.0001 and V31.0002.

- Finance
Topics in corporate finance and investment principles. Students will be waived from this requirement by obtaining a grade of B- or better in C15.0002 and C15.0007.

- Applied Statistical Methods
Topics in regression analysis and time series analysis. Students will be waived from this requirement by obtaining a grade of B- or better in B90.3302/C22.0015 and B90.2302/C22.0018.
