Joshua Livnat, Ph. D., CPA, is a Full Professor in the department of Accounting, Taxation and Business Law at New York University’s Stern School of Business and a former chairman of this department. Professor Livnat earned his B. Sc. (Mathematics and Statistics) from Hebrew University of Jerusalem , and his Ph. D. (Accounting) from New York University in 1978. Professor Livnat taught at various universities in the US and abroad. He joined New York University in 1987.

Professor Livnat has published numerous research and professional articles in leading journals in the fields of accounting, finance, and management. Professor Livnat, together with Kenneth S. Hackel, has published Cash Flow and Security Analysis (Business-One Irwin, First Edition in 1992, Second Edition in 1995), a book which details an investment strategy based on Free Cash Flow.

Professor Livnat’s research has primarily been in the areas of financial accounting (the relationship between accounting information and security prices), security analysis, and diversification strategies of firms.

Professor Livnat served as consultant on security analysis, portfolio management, investments, auditing methods, and management strategies to various firms. He has also served as an expert witness in cases which required expert opinion on accounting issues, valuation of damages, and security valuation. He has lectured in executive programs in the US, Israel, Thailand, New Zealand, Australia and Finland.
