Computational updates (first and second printings)

• The URL for Chong Gu's RKPACK-II code has changed to http://www.stat.purdue.edu/people/chong/software.html.
• MATLAB includes cubic smoothing spline fitting as part of its splines toolbox.
• MINITAB also provides lowess capability with the package.
• S-PLUS code to construct many smoothing-based estimates, based on the book Kernel Smoothing by M.P. Wand and M.C. Jones, is available as the KernSmooth library via the World Wide Web at http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/MASS4/Software.html, and at http://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Descriptions/KernSmooth.html for the package R.
• S-PLUS and R code to construct many smoothing-based estimates and tests, based on the book Applied Smoothing Techniques for Data Analysis by A.W. Bowman and A. Azzalini, is available via the World Wide Web at http://www.stats.gla.ac.uk/~adrian/sm.
• The anonymous ftp address for the XLISP-STAT code of Simonoff and Udina (1997) and Udina (1994) has changed to gauss.upf.es (in the directories /pub/stat/anchor-position and /pub/stat/kde, respectively).

• The anonymous ftp address for the S-PLUS bivariate histogram code of David Scott has changed to ftp.stat.rice.edu, in the directory /pub/scottdw/Multi.Den.Est/hist.2d. Similarly, the anonymous ftp address for his mode tree code has been changed to ftp.stat.rice.edu, in the directory /pub/scottdw/Mode.Tree.
• The code for APL2STAT is available via the World Wide Web at http://www.math.yorku.ca/SCS/friendly.html, rather than at the ftp address given in the book.
• The ftp address of the location in netlib where various smoothing spline packages can be found has changed to www.netlib.org, in the directory /gcv.
