The New York State Intergenerational Network

NYSIgN's Mission:

We work to stimulate the growth of intergenerational programming and to advocate for public policies that recognize the benefits of different generations working together. Linking generations creates a sense of family, strengthens communities, and makes the skills and experience of different generations available to one another.

NYSIgN is a statewide, non-profit organization of over 100 voluntary agencies and individuals. It is composed of county chapters, grouped into regions. Regional areas are: Long Island, New York City, Mid Hudson, Albany, Southern Tier, Central New York, and Finger Lakes. Each region has two representatives on the Board of Directors.

We are a member of Generations United, the national coalition on intergenerational issues and programs.

NYSIgN has established the following objectives:

  • To assist with program development by providing written materials, training conferences, and guidelines for program planning, implementaion and evaluation.

  • To create and maintain a resource directory of intergenerational programs throughout New York State.

  • To advocate on policy issues which address human needs of all generations at local, state, and national levels.

  • To support and promote regional networks.
