The year 2007 is very special for Stern Women in Business. It is not only the 35th Anniversary of SWIB, but it is also the
15th Anniversary of the SWIB conference. To celebrate, we wanted to honor our predecessors with a theme that acknowledges
their achievements and identifies our challenge for the next millennium: "Finding Authenticity: The Next Challenge for
Women in Business."
The idea behind this theme is that the women before us have fought hard for equality in the workplace, but now it is our
responsibility to take it one step further. Our challenge is to not only be equal, but to also be ourselves and to work and
lead with authenticity.
What does it mean to be authentic at work? It means having the confidence to not change who we are when we are in the
office. It means connecting with colleagues on a personal level and establishing lasting relationships. Authentic leaders
are not afraid to express their opinions and values. As women, we should not have one personality for work and another
in our personal lives. Our performance at work will be better if we are true to ourselves.
The SWIB conference has always been a great mix of current students, prospective students, alumni and members of the
professional community. We invite all women, including non-SWIB members and women outside of the Stern community, to take
advantage of everything the conference has to offer. The opportunity to network with and learn from a diverse group of
successful women from varied backgrounds is a great reason to attend.
This year we are going to have three panels with outstanding women in business. There will also be workshops led by women
whose professions are to coach, teach, and guide clients through their careers. We are also thrilled to have Anne Sweeney,
Co-Chair of Disney Media Networks and President of Disney-ABC Television Group, as our morning keynote speaker, and Eileen
Murray, Head of Global Technology and Operations for Morgan Stanley, as our afternoon keynote speaker.
This year's conference is a milestone for SWIB and we hope you will join us to celebrate!
