Books and materials

For 2022 Fall, these information is preliminary.
The prices, editions, and so forth refer to the 2021 class. Do not sign up or make purchases until I have confirmed the details.

The "books" that we'll be using are 

• BKM: Bodie, Kane and Marcus, Essentials of Investments, 12th US edition, not to be confused with "Investments," by the same authors. Most of the course material is taken from this book.
• RWJ: Ross, Westerfield, and Jordan, Fundamentals of Corporate Finance, 13th edition. We're using only two chapters (5 and 6) from this book.

We will be accessing BKM on the McGraw-Hill Education Connect platform. Connect delivers the text in eBook form, but also study materials and problem sets that are required for the course. The charge for Connect access is about $95which will appear as a line item on your NYU Bursar's bill. If you drop the course or switch to a section that does not require Connect, this charge will be be refunded.

The RWJ material (the two chapters) is a separate eBook which you purchase (approximately $10) from McGraw. This is not refundable. Once purchased, the book is accessible on McGraw's eBook site.

• To register for BKM access on Connect, go to https://connect.mheducation.com/class/j-hasbrouck-fall-2021. Use your NYU email to create your Connect account. (That is, use your email of the form "mm123@nyu.edu" (NOT mm123@stern.nyu.edu or Mickey.Mouse@stern.nyu.edu). 

Important: Opting in / Opting out This is confusing. When you register for Connect, you may be presented with a choice to "opt out", but this is not really a meaningful option. You can't opt out of MHE Connect for this section: the "opt out" refers to opting out of the NYU discount purchase. If you opt out and stick with course, you'll have to buy access directly from MHE, and forego the NYU discount. I am told that the price without the NYU discount is around $130.  I am also told that you can opt-in/opt-out until September 30.

The bookstore's standard notice is:

This course is participating in the Follett Access program. To promote affordability, NYU has partnered with the NYU Bookstore to offer you this program to give you substantial savings on your course materials. 

Should you choose to remove yourself from the program and find your course materials elsewhere, you must login here to the student portal and opt out of having the course materials provided to you by September 30th. "Opt-in" is the default; to opt-out you must take active steps. If you have opted out, you can opt back in (by September 30).

• To purchase the RWJ access, go to https://www.mheducation.com/highered/custom/product/9781307740059.html; add the book to your cart; pay using a credit card; and follow on screen instructions to checkout.  The confirmation I received suggests that these chapters are downloadable and readable with a separate app (Vitalsource Bookshelf), but I have not verified this.
