Biography
Richard Bernstein joined NYU Stern School of Business as an Adjunct Professor of Finance. He is Chief Executive and Chief Investment Officer of Richard Bernstein Advisors LLC. He was previously Merrill Lynch's investment strategist and head of their Investment Strategy Group.
Professor Bernstein is the author of Style Investing - Unique Insight into Equity Management (John Wiley & Sons), and Navigate the Noise: Investing in the New Age of Media and Hype (John Wiley & Sons). Professor Bernstein donates profits from these books to charity.
Professor Bernstein has worked on Wall Street for almost 30 years. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch in 1988, he held positions at E.F. Hutton and Chase Econometrics and IDC. While at Merrill Lynch, he was voted to the Institutional Investor All-America Research team 18 times and was named to the "First Team" 10 times. He was also one of Fortune magazine's 2001 and 2002 All-Star analysts, and in 2002 and 2004 he was listed as one of SmartMoney magazine's "Power 30."
He is a member of the board of trustees of Hamilton College and a member of the committee which oversees the college's Endowment Fund. He also sits on the NYU Stern Executive Board, co-chairs the Investment Committee of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Portfolio Management.
Professor Bernstein earned an M.B.A. in Finance, with honors, from NYU Stern and a B.A. in Economics from Hamilton College. He has lectured on finance and economics at numerous colleges and universities.
