Founding Members

SABAS is the latest student association at NYU Stern. The founding members of SABAS are Aarti Raghavan, Anand Baldawa, Chandra Subramanian, Karan Bhatia, Thej Gurumurthy and Yogesh Amle. The founding members also form the executive committee of SABAS. The executive committee has overall responsibility of carrying out the mission of SABAS and to put SABAS on its path to become one of the finest clubs at NYU Stern.

First Year Officers

Imaan Kabir (VP-Faculty & Alumni Relations) Imaan is a first year MBA specializing in Finance and Global Business. Prior to Stern, she worked as Marketing Director for Mason Hill Advisors, LLC, a New York based investment management firm. Imaan holds a BA in Economics from Amherst College in Massachusetts. She grew up in Berkeley, California and attended high school in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In her spare time, Imaan is interested in film, dance and travel.

Gaurav Mehta (VP-Treks) Gaurav is a first year MBA Student at Stern. He grew up in India and graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 2002, with a major in Electrical Engineering. Most recently, he was working with Bank of America in the investment banking division at their Mumbai office, where he was part of the Financial Institutions group. Gaurav has traveled extensively within and outside India and follows cricket, formula one and tennis keenly.

Virendra Jain (VP-Treasury)Virendra (VK) is a first year MBA student at Stern. He has extensive background in consulting focused on supply chain management and enterprise data management. He has worked with IBM, i2 Technologies and Tata Consultancy Services. Geographically, he has worked extensively in Europe, India, and America. While he was in the UK, he worked voluntarily as Treasury team member for Pratham - a not-for-profit organization, helping with child education. He loves playing racquet sports, doing yoga and watching movies. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai (Bombay), with a major in Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science.

Tushar Kanungo (VP-Corporate Relations) Tushar is a first year MBA student from the UK pursuing a career change to strategy consulting. He completed his undergraduate studies at the London School of Economics, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in London. As an auditor for three and a half years, he served clients primarily in the Oil and Gas and Telecommunication sectors. In the five months prior to Stern, Tushar worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions practice at PwC serving clients in the support services sector. Tushar is a keen follower of all things cricket, and likes to play squash when he can.

Monica Khurana (VP-Marketing) Monica is a first year MBA student at Stern who made the cross-country move from Los Angeles. She graduated from UCLA in 2000 and is pursuing a career in film production. Prior to Stern, Monica worked as a CPA in the entertainment industry and toured the world as a professional Bharata Natyam (classical Indian dance form) dancer. Monica enjoys watching UCLA and Lakers games, snowboarding, and traveling in her spare time.

Sangeetha Ramsagar (VP-Part-time) Sangeetha is a first year MBA student concentrating in International Business and Strategy. After earning her M.S. in Molecular Genetics from Ohio State University, Sangeetha joined Bayer Pharmaceuticals as an Oncology Scientist and eventually moved to a position as Product Manager for Strategic Marketing. Originally from Chennai, India, Sangeetha grew up in the military, primarily in Delhi and Goa and is fluent in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Sangeetha is a passionate athlete and has run the Columbus marathon, hiked the Grand Canyon, the Himalayas and is an active member of Stern Adventures.

Simran Kaur (VP-Social Events)Simran is a first year MBA student at Stern. She grew up in New York and graduated from Columbia University in 2004. Prior to NYU, Simran was working at Goldman Sachs on the Quantitative Equity Team as an Analyst. After Stern, Simran hopes to pursue a career in Sales and Trading. When she's not at school, Simran enjoys trying new cuisines, dancing, running and volunteering with the Sikh Coalition.

Mayank Agarwal (VP-Technology) Mayank is a first year MBA specializing in Banking and Corporate Finance who wants to pursue a career in investment banking. He holds a Master's degree in Computer Science and has worked as a software engineer for Nokia Research Center in Dallas, Texas, and for VeriSign in Dulles, Virginia. Mayank loves travelling, especially to the mountains and has been trekking in the Himalayas several times.

Pamela Cholankeril (VP-Faculty & Alumni Relations) Pamela Cholankeril is a first year MBA at Stern specializing in Corporate Finance and Strategy. Prior to Stern, Pamela was a strategy consultant for investment banks at IBM Consulting. Pamela is a Stern alum and holds a BA in Finance and Marketing from NYU Stern. When she's not at school, Pamela enjoys traveling, running, reading and dancing.

Second Year Officers

Avanti Paul (President) Avanti is a second year MBA specializing in Marketing and Finance. Prior to Stern, she worked in operations consulting with Capgemini and Accenture where she focused on improving efficiencies in the Healthcare and Life Sciences sector. Avanti grew up in Chennai, India but spent most of her working life in Chicago. This summer she will be interning for Unilever in the Foods division. Alongside business school she is pursuing a Fine Arts certificate at Parson's New School of Design.

Gnani Balasubramaniam (VP-Faculty, Alumni & External Affairs) After growing up in Sri Lanka, India and the Middle East, Gnani has spent the last decade in the U.S. starting from his undergrad days at Purdue. Prior to Stern, he spent a brief period managing a family business in India, and then worked for a lighting controls firm called Lutron Electronics doing digital hardware design. When Gnani is not at Stern, he enjoys white water rafting, squash and a good bean burrito from Chipotle.

Sachin Khattar (VP-Events) Sachin is a second year MBA student at Stern. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 2000 and has since worked in different roles in consulting, merchant banking and financial services. Prior to coming to Stern, Sachin was a high-risk credit analyst covering highly leveraged companies in the retail sector. In his spare time, Sachin enjoys hiking, snowboarding, chess and eating Indian food. He is a CFA charterholder.

Vishal Kapadia (VP-Events) Hailing from the Boston area, Vishal is a 2nd year student at Stern pursuing a career in Investment Management. After his college days at UCLA as a Business Economics major, Vishal spent a year with The Capital Group Companies in Los Angeles as a performance analyst for the firm's institutional asset management portfolios. Shunning the warm weather of Los Angeles, Vishal eventually returned to the Boston area, where he managed a mortgage brokerage and attended as many Red Sox games as possible for three years prior to arriving at Stern.

Anurag Poddar (VP-Admissions & Career Development) Anurag Poddar is a second year student at Stern pursuing a career in investment banking. He is also a chartered accountant by training and has prior experience in accounting, taxation and financial consulting. For the last three years, he was working as a client banker with ICICI Bank, Mumbai in their mid-markets corporate banking group. In his spare time Anurag, loves to read, write (but nobody reciprocates by reading) and walk.

Mitul Gandhi (VP-Technology) Mitul is an Electrical engineer from India who has held various positions in the IT industry over the past 7 years. Most recently he was a project manager at TIAA-CREF in their annuities division. He hopes to augment his experience in the finance industry with an MBA from Stern towards a career in Sales & Trading. An avid badminton player, he is working towards elevating his scuba diving certification to a wreck diver status in the near future.

Ramya Modukuri (VP-Conference) Ever since she landed in New York 7 years ago, Ramya has considered herself a New Yorker. Prior to Stern, Ramya worked as an IT consultant, focusing on the Financial Services industry. Upon graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in Finance. Even though she is a software engineer by training, her true passions are Carnatic music and cooking, both of which she has been a lifelong lover and practitioner of.

Vishal Sitapara (VP-Speaker Series) Vishal is a 2nd year MBA student at Stern, pursuing a career in Investment Banking. Prior to Stern, Vishal worked in the Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice of Deloitte Consulting. Specifically, Vishal worked with insurers and hospitals alike to increase operational efficiencies. Vishal graduated from the George Washington University with a degree in Finance and Information Systems.

Debraj Ghosh (VP-India Trek) Debraj is a second year MBA student at Stern. In years past, he was involved with the dot com, the IT outsourcing phenomenon, and a couple of non-profit initiatives, that have collectively shaped his life's goals. At SABAS, his goal is to open doors and minds of future leaders to the India-story, and to connect genuine ideas to real opportunities for a better future. After Stern, Debraj hopes to work as a management consultant in a world without borders.

Kedar Telang (VP-Treasury) Kedar is a 2nd year MBA student at Stern. Prior to Stern, he worked in the consulting divisions at i2 Technologies and Manhattan Associates, both leading vendors of supply chain management systems. In his most recent role, he was a project manager for an implementation at a large US food retailer. Kedar holds a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from IIT Bombay and a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.

Marti G. Subrahmanyam is the Charles E. Merrill Professor of finance, economics and international business at New York University's Stern School of Business. Besides his rich academic and research experience, Professor Subrahmanyam has extensive consulting experience.
